Hokie seniors named All-America Scholars

Golf coaches honor Drew Johnson and Joey Lane

Two Virginia Tech men’s golfers, Drew Johnson and Joey Lane, have been named to the 2017 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team, as awarded by the Golf Coaches Association of America. This is Lane and Johnson’s second season on the list.

The duo, who finished their careers in April for the Hokies, are two of 18 Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes named to the team.

Johnson is a 2017 graduate from Oak Ridge, North Carolina. He competed in eight events this season and was sixth on the team in scoring and fifth in Crunch Time scoring average.

Lane is a 2017 graduate from Great Falls, Virginia. Lane was third on the team in scoring and fourth in crunch time average this past season. He won his first collegiate event at the Janney Invitational in Richmond in September.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university. The two golfers honored this year represent the only two seniors on the squad.
