Three Virginia Tech golfers made the cut on Friday at the prestigious Eastern Amateur. The four-day tournament is being played at the par 70, 6,462-yard Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Ian Hildebrand, a rising senior from Purcellville, Virginia, continued to pace the Hokie competitors in Portsmouth, as he carded a 4-under 136 and is tied for 12th place. Logan Yates, a rising junior from Ruckersville, Virginia and Mark Lawrence Jr., a rising junior from Richmond, Virginia, are tied for 38th at even-par, 140.

Now in its 61st year, the Eastern Amateur annually draws one of the top fields in amateur golf. Past champions include Curtis Strange, Vinny Giles, Buddy Alexander, Lanny Wadkins and Ben Crenshaw. Recent Virginia Tech graduate Joey Lane is the defending champion of the event, but did not compete in this year’s tournament.
