Mark Lawrence ties for 12th at NCAA Regional

Sarit Suwannarut ties for 31st in West Lafayette

Virginia Tech men’s golfer Mark Lawrence posted a three-round total of 4-over 220 and tied for 12^th place at the 2017 NCAA Men’s Golf West Lafayette Regional. The three-day event was played at the par-72, 7,411-yard Kampen Course at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, wrapping up on Wednesday afternoon.

Lawrence, a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, shot a 78 on Wednesday, following identical 71s on Monday and Tuesday. Trent Wallace of Illinois State finished in seventh place overall at 1-over 145 and advanced to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship finals. The finals will be played May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. Wallace finished three strokes ahead of Lawrence.

Sarit Suwannarut, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, tied for 31^st at 225. Both Hokies competed as individuals in the event. Lawrence was the second seed of the 10 individuals at the site and Suwannarut was the seventh seed.

The top five teams and the top individual not on an advancing team qualify for the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship finals. UNLV won the team title and are joined in the finals by Auburn, Illinois, New Mexico and host Purdue.
