Mark Lawrence tied for seventh at NCAA Regional

Final round to be played on Wednesday

Virginia Tech men’s golfer Mark Lawrence has a two-round total of 2-under 142 and is tied for seventh place at the 2017 NCAA Men’s Golf West Lafayette Regional on Tuesday. The three-day event is being played at the par-72, 7,411-yard Kampen Course at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Lawrence, a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, shot his second consecutive 1-under 71 on Tuesday and is tied for seventh place among the 75 golfers in West Lafayette. He is four strokes behind the leader, Trent Wallace of Illinois State. Lawrence had five birdies in his second round. Lawrence and Wallace will be grouped together in the final round.

Sarit Suwannarut, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 26^th with a 148. Both Hokies are competing as individuals in the event. Lawrence is the second seed of the 10 individuals at the site and Suwannarut is the seventh seed.

The top five teams and the top individual not on an advancing team will qualify for the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship finals. Entering Wednesday’s final round, Lawrence is currently third among players competing for the lone individual advancing position.

The finals will be played May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. New Mexico has the team lead entering the final round.
