Hokies finish 11th at Wolfpack Spring Open

Final Results
The Virginia Tech men’s golf team posted a three round total of 19-over 871 and finished in 11th place at the Wolfpack Spring Open on Saturday afternoon. The two-day, 54-hole event was played at the par 71, 7,046-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Tech shot a 7-over 291 in Friday’s morning round and improved to a 287 in the second round, played Friday afternoon. Tech shot a 293 in Saturday’s final round.
Sarit Suwannarut, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, led the Hokies. He finished tied for 13th place at 2-under 211. He finished 11 strokes behind medalist Nolan Mills of NC State.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, finished tied for 16th place at 212 and Logan Yates, a sophomore from Ruckersville, Virginia, tied for 64th at 225. Joey Lane, a senior from Great Falls, Virginia, tied for 66th at 226 and Blake Fiest, a sophomore from Huntersville, North Carolina, tied for 83rd place at 234.
Drew Johnson, a senior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, played the tournament as an individual. He tied for 54th place at 222.
Host NC State won the tournament with a three round total of 31-under 821, 13 strokes ahead of Clemson and 28 strokes ahead of Duke. South Florida was fourth at 850, Maryland was fifth at 851, UNC Greensboro was sixth at 853 and Middle Tennessee State was seventh at 860. UNC Wilmington and Western Carolina tied for eighth at 865 and East Tennessee State was 10th at 867, four strokes ahead of the Hokies. Loyola of Maryland was 12th at 874, Francis Marion was 13th at 898, Temple was 14th at 908 and Manhattan finished 15th at 914.
Next up for the Hokies is the 2017 ACC Men’s Golf Championship. The three-day, 54-hole championship will be played April 21-23 at the Musgrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton, South Carolina.
