Hokies 12th entering final round at Raleigh

The Virginia Tech men’s golf team posted a two round total of 10-over 578 and is in 12^th place at the Wolfpack Spring Open. The two-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par 71, 7,046-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Tech shot a 7-over 291 in the morning round and improved to a 287 in the second round, played Friday afternoon.

Mark Lawrence Jr., a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, leads the Hokies. He shot a 5-under 137 and is tied for 10^th place individually. He trails leader Jonathan Brightwell on UNC Greensboro by seven strokes. Lawrence shot a career-best 66 in the afternoon round. The five-under par score ties his best collegiate round in regards to par.

Sarit Suwannarut, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 13^th place at 138 and Joey Lane, a senior from Great Falls, Virginia, is tied for 69^th at 150. Logan Yates, a sophomore from Ruckersville, Virginia, is tied for 81^st at 153 and Blake Fiest, a sophomore from Huntersville, North Carolina, is in 88^th place at 161. Suwannarut shot a 67 in the afternoon round.

Drew Johnson, a senior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, is playing the event as an individual. He is tied for 55^th place at 148.

Host NC State leads the event with a two round total of 25 under 543, two strokes ahead of Clemson and 13 strokes ahead of UNC Wilmington. UNC Greensboro is fourth at 557, Maryland is fifth at 558, Duke is sixth at 561, South Florida is seventh at 567 and Middle Tennessee State is eighth at 570. Loyola of Maryland is ninth at 572 and East Tennessee State and Western Carolina are tied for 10^th at 576, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Temple and Francis Marion are tied for 13^th and Manhattan is 15^th at 597

The final round will be played on Saturday morning with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. There will be live scoring available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
