Hokies tied for 10th entering final round at Augusta

The Virginia Tech men’s golf team posted a two round total of 3-under 573 on Saturday and is tied with Tennessee at the 3M Augusta Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par 72, 7,005-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
Tech shot a 7-under 281 in the morning round and followed that with a 4-over 292 in the afternoon round.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, leads the Hokies. He shot a 4-under 140 and is tied for 11th place individually. He shot a 5-under 67 in the morning round, his low round of the season. He trails leader Dylan Meyer of Illinois by seven strokes.
Sarit Suwannarut, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 18th at 141 and Joey Lane, a senior from Great Falls, Virginia, is tied for 46th at 146. Blake Fiest, a sophomore from Huntersville, North Carolina and Tom Crow, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Virginia are tied for 57th at 148. Suwannarut eagled the par 5, 533-yard 17th in the afternoon round.
Illinois and New Mexico are tied for the lead entering Sunday’s final round. They each shot a 19-under 557 on Saturday, two strokes ahead of UCF and five strokes ahead of Wake Forest. Houston is fifth at 565, host Augusta and Oklahoma are tied for sixth at 566, Georgia State is eighth at 571 and Georgia is ninth at 571, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Volunteers. UAB is 12th at 576, Mercer is 13th at 584 and USC Aiken and Army are tied for 14th at 585.
The 18-hole final round will be played on Sunday morning. The Hokies will begin at 8:55 a.m. from the 10th tee and will be grouped with Tennessee and UAB. There will be live scoring available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
