Hokies 12th entering final round at Furman

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team has a two round total of 6-over 582 and is in 12th place at the Furman Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon. The three-day, 54-hole event is being played at the par 72, 7,004-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, South Carolina.
The Hokies shot a 290 on Friday and followed that with a 292 on Saturday morning.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, leads the Hokies. He has a two-round total of 3-under 141 and is tied for 17th individually. He trails leader Andrew Novak of Wofford by eight strokes. Lawrence shot a 4-under 68 on Saturday.
Joey Lane, a senior from Great Falls, Virginia, shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday and is tied for 33rd at even-par 144 and Sarit Suwannarut, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 53rd at 147. Tom Crow, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Virginia, is tied for 88th at 150 and Logan Yates, a sophomore from Ruckersville, Virginia, is 120th at 158.
Three Hokies are playing the event as individuals. Ian Hildebrand, a junior from Purcellville, Virginia is tied for 62nd at 148 and Blake Fiest, a sophomore from Huntersville, North Carolina and Drew Johnson, a senior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, are tied for 96th at 151.
Clemson moves into the tournament lead after two rounds. The Tigers are a 20-under 556, 11 strokes ahead of USC Aiken and 13 strokes ahead of Chattanooga and Georgia Southern. Wofford is sixth at 570, Harvard is sixth at 573 and Dartmouth, James Madison, Gardner-Webb and Wichita State are tied for seventh at 574. Western Carolina is 11th at 578, four strokes ahead of the Hokies. Akron is 13th at 583, host Furman is 14th at 584 and USC Upstate and Francis Marion are tied for 15th at 587. West Virginia, Marshall, Samford, Presbyterian and Temple round out the 20-team field.
The final round will be played Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The Hokies will be grouped with Western Carolina and Wichita State.
