JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team has a two-round total of 1-over 577 and is in 10th place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon. The three-day event is being played at the Par-72, 7,147 yards Blackthorn Club golf course in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
The Hokies had a 2-under 286 in Friday’s first round before posting a 3-over 291 in the second round on Saturday.
Joey Lane, a senior from Great Falls, Virginia, leads the Hokies. He has a two-round total of 4-under 140 and trails leader Derek Bard of Virginia by seven strokes. Lane carded a 4-under 68 on Saturday, a round that included an eagle-3 on the 567-yard, par 5 fourth hole.
Sarit Suwannarut, a freshman from Bangkok, Thailand, is tied for 19th at 3-under 141 and Mark Lawrence Jr., a sophomore from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 40th at 145. Logan Yates, a sophomore from Ruckersville, Virginia is in 73rd place at 152 and Drew Johnson, a senior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, is in 75th place at 154.
Two Hokies are playing the tournament as individuals. Tom Crow, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Virginia, is tied for 60th at 149 and Ian Hildebrand, a junior from Purcellville, Virginia, is tied for 76th at 155.
Virginia holds the lead entering the final round. The Cavaliers are at 27-under 549, 11 strokes ahead of Missouri and 14 strokes ahead of host East Tennessee State. Kent State is fourth at 564, UNC Wilmington is fifth at 565, Louisville is sixth at 566 and VCU is seventh at 571. Penn State is eighth at 572 and Kansas State is ninth at 574, three strokes ahead of the Hokies. Charlotte is 11th at 578, Coastal Carolina is 12th at 579, Tennessee is 13th at 581, Furman is 14th at 582 and Villanova is 15th at 595.
The final round will be played Sunday morning. The Hokies will tee off beginning at 9 a.m. and will be grouped with Charlotte and Coastal Carolina. Live stats will be available on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
