CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Due to the torrential rains that accompanied Hurricane Matthew, the final round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate has been cancelled. The event was played at the par 72, 7,220-yard UNC Finley Golf Club in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The Hokies finish tied for 10th place overall, through the 36 holes completed on Friday. UNC Wilmington takes the team title with a score of 9-under 567, three strokes ahead of host North Carolina. The Hokies tied VCU at 589.
Sarit Suwannarut finished tied for 13th place at 1-under 143. He finished five strokes behind co-medalist Alfredo Ruiz of Coastal Carolina and Jake McGlone of UNC Greensboro.
The Hokies return to action Oct. 14-16, as they compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. The three-day event, hosted by East Tennessee State, will be played at the Blackthorn Club at The Ridges, a par-72, 7,147-yard course in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
