NORMAN, Okla. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team was named a 2016 All-Academic team, as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday. Tech is one of 112 Division I teams to be so honored this season.
To be honored, a team must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher. To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPA for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. This is the fourth year in a row the program has been awarded the honor.
Tech joins fellow ACC teams Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Notre Dame, Virginia and Wake Forest on the list. Embry-Riddle Arizona, an NAIA school, was named the Academic National Champions this season with a total GPA of 3.787. Valparaiso won the Division I title. Twenty-four teams received President’s Special Recognition status for having team GPAs of 3.5 or better, which ties last year as an all-time high for the awards.
