Hokie freshman wins on ASEAN PGA Tour
Sarit Suwannarut to enter Virginia Tech this fall

PATTAYA, Thailand – Incoming Virginia Tech men’s golfer Sarit Suwannarut won the ASEAN PGA Tour’s Singha Pattaya Open over the weekend. The ASEAN PGA Tour is a professional golf tour in Asia.

The amateur defeated professional Udorn Duangdecha on the third playoff hole to claim the tournament title. Suwannarut and Duangdecha shared the lead entering the final round and each shot identical 3-under 67 in the final round to tie at 16-under 264. As an amateur, Suwannarut, was not eligible for the winner's prize money of Bt450,000.

Suwannarut, from Bangkok, Thailand, is a member of the Thailand National golf team that won the team gold medal in last year’s SEA Games in Singapore. He signed with the Hokies last fall and will enter Virginia Tech as a freshman in August.

The Singha Pattaya Open was played at the par-70, 7,059-yard Burapa Golf and Resort in Pattaya, Thailand.
