NORMAN, Okla. – Four Virginia Tech men’s golfers, Maclain Huge, Drew Johnson, Joey Lane and Ryan Mondy have been to the 2016 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars team, as awarded by the Golf Coaches Association of America. They are four of 14 Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes named to the team.

Huge, from Lovettesville, Virginia, completed his senior season for Virginia Tech in May. This is his second season being selected to the All-America Scholar team. He played in every match for the Hokies this season and was third on the team in scoring average and “Crunch Time” scoring average as a senior.

Johnson is a rising senior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina. He competed in every event this season and was fourth on the team in scoring and fifth in Crunch Time scoring average.

Lane is a rising senior from Great Falls, Virginia. Lane led the Hokies in scoring and crunch time average this past season and advanced to the NCAA Franklin Regional in May. He finished seventh in the 2016 ACC Championship in April.

Mondy graduated from Virginia Tech in May after just three academic years. He played in all but one event for the Hokies this past season and was fifth on the team in scoring average and fourth in Crunch Time scoring average.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university. The four golfers honored this year represent the only four juniors and seniors on the squad.

Huge joins Drew Weaver (2008 and 2009) and Bryce Chalkley (2014 and 2015) as the only Hokies to earn this prestigious award in both years of their eligibility. Jake Allison (1985), Mark Teachey (1986), Carl Wakely (2007) and Jurrian van der Vaart (2008), also have earned the All-America Scholar honor.
