LYNCHBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech golfer Joey Lane has been named to the 2016 VaSID All-State University Division Men’s Golf second team, in voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors organization. This is Lane’s first year on the team.
Lane, a junior from Great Falls, Virginia, led the Hokies in scoring average, at 72.23 and in final round scoring average, at 72.55. He had a team-high seven top 20 finishes this season, highlighted by fourth-place finishes at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and the Kiawah Classic in the Fall. Lane posted a career-best seventh place finish at the ACC Men’s Golf Championship in the spring. In May, he competed in the NCAA Franklin Regional as an independent, finishing 55th overall.
JMU’s Ryan Cole was named the Player of the Year and the Dukes’ Alex Henderson was named VaSID Rookie of the Year. Bowen Sargent of Virginia was named the Coach of the Year. Cole and Henderson were joined on the VaSID first time by Adam Ball of VCU and Virginia’s Derek Bard and Jimmy Stanger. Joining Lane on the second team were Liberty’s Isaiah Logue and Mickey DeMorat, Matthew Lowe of Richmond and David Hicks of William & Mary.
