NEW LONDON, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot an opening round 16-over 304 and is in 11^th place at the 63^rd ACC Men’s Golf Championship. The three-day event is being played at the 7,102-yard, par 72 Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, North Carolina.

Joey Lane, a junior from Great Falls, Virginia, is tied for 38^th place with a 2-over 74. Ryan Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, is tied for 47^th place at 76 and Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia and Blake Fiest, a freshman from Huntersville, North Carolina, are tied for 51^st at 77. Drew Johnson, a junior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, is tied for 53^rd place at 78.

Clemson holds the first round lead with an 11-under 273, four strokes ahead of Wake Forest and 14 strokes ahead of Florida State, Virginia, Louisville, Duke and Georgia Tech, all tied for third place. NC State is eighth at 290, North Carolina is ninth at 295 and Notre Dame is 10^th at 299, five strokes ahead of the Hokies and six strokes ahead of Boston College.

Wake Forest’s Paul McBride carded the top score of the day, a 6-under 66. He leads Stephen Behr and Bryson Nimmer, both of Clemson, by one stroke.

Round two of the 2016 ACC Men’s Golf Championship begins on Saturday morning with the Hokies joining Boston College and Notre Dame, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday’s second round action will be available via live stream on ESPN3 beginning at 3 p.m. A link to the ESPN3 broadcast and live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com.
