Hokies in 12th at General Hackler Championship
Play suspended due to darkness

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Virginia Tech is in 12th place near the end of the second round at the General Hackler Championship. The 54-hole, two-day event is being played at the par-72, 7,233 yard Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The Hokies have finished their second round, but two groups still have to finish on Sunday morning, as play was halted due to darkness.

Ryan Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, is tied for 29th place after shooting rounds of 72 and 73 on Saturday. His 1-over 145 is nine strokes behind leader Jimmy Stanger of Virginia.

Drew Johnson, a junior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, is tied for 39th at 147 and Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia is tied for 42nd at 148. Joey Lane, a junior from Great Falls, Virginia is tied for 66th at 154 and Blake Fiest, a freshman from Huntersville, North Carolina, is tied for 70th at 155. Ian Hildebrand, a sophomore from Purcellville, Virginia, is playing the tournament as an individual and is also tied for 70th at 155.

South Carolina, ranked 19th nationally, lead the tournament at 16-under 560, three strokes ahead of 24th-ranked Virginia. Both the Gamecocks and Cavaliers finished their rounds on Saturday. NC State, which still has two groups on the course, is third, followed by Texas A&M in fourth and North Carolina and Kent State are tied for fifth. The Hokies’ 592 is three strokes behind Iowa State, which must complete its second round on Sunday.

The second round will be completed at 7:45 a.m. and the third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Live stats are available on golfstat.com, from a link on Hokiesports.com.
