KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team has a two-round total of 11-over-par 587 and is in eighth place at the Kiawah Classic by Aramark on Monday afternoon.
The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at the par 72, 7,100-yard Turtle Point Golf Club at the Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina. The Hokies shot a 292 on Sunday and followed that with a 295 on Monday.
Joey Lane, a junior from Great Falls, Virginia, is in fourth place overall with a two-round total of 5-under 139. He is five strokes behind leader Robin Petersson of Augusta. Lane shot a 69 on Sunday and carded a 2-under 70 on Monday.
Logan Yates, a freshman from Ruckersville, Virginia, is tied for 32nd place at 147 and Drew Johnson, a junior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina and Ryan Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, Virginia, are tied for 66th place at 152. Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia, is toed for 103rd place at 159.
Host Charleston Southern has the lead entering the final round. They are at 10-under 566, five strokes ahead of Virginia and nine strokes ahead of Duke and Augusta. The College of Charleston is fifth at 579, Georgia Southern is sixth at 581 and Maryland is seventh at 586, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Loyola-Maryland is ninth at 591 and Georgia Tech is 10th at 592. In all, there are 22 teams competing in the tournament.
