Hokies tied for fourth after Day One at Kiawah
Joey Lane continues his strong play

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team shot an opening round 4-over-par 292 and is tied with Missouri and Georgia Southern at the Kiawah Classic by Aramark. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at the par 72, 7,100-yard Turtle Point Golf Club at the Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina.

Joey Lane, a junior from Great Falls, Virginia, continued his strong fall with a 3-under 69 and is in fourth place individually. He trails leaders R.J. Keur of host Charleston Southern, Robin Petersson of Augusta and Nick Brediger of Radford by just one stroke.

Logan Yates, a freshman from Ruckersville, Virginia and Drew Johnson, a junior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, are tied for 16th place with even-par 72. Ryan Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, Virginia is tied for 95th at 79 and Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia, is tied for 106th at 82.

Host Charleston Southern leads the tournament at 1-under 287, two strokes ahead of Virginia and Augusta and five strokes ahead of the Hokies, Tigers and Eagles. Duke and Georgia Tech are tied for seventh at 293, Jacksonville State and the College of Charleston are tied for ninth at 295 and Gardner-Webb is 11th at 296. Richmond is 12th at 297, Radford is 13th at 298 and USC Upstate is 14th at 299. In all there are 22 teams competing in this tournament.

The second round will be played in Monday and the final round will be played on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com via a link from Golfstat.com.
