Blacksburg, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team concludes the fall portion of the 2015-16 schedule this week at the Kiawah Classic by Aramark. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played at the par 72, 7,100-yard Turtle Point Golf Club at the Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina.
Played on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point Golf Club course, the 22-team event boasts a strong field, drawn from across the country. Tech joins Duke Virginia and Georgia Tech as ACC schools in the tournament. Charleston Southern is the tournament host and Winthrop returns to defend their 2014 title.
Joey Lane, a junior from Great Fall, Virginia will play in the first position for the Hokies. He had a career-best fourth place finish three weeks ago at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and followed that with an eighth place finish at Bridgestone last week. He currently leads the Hokies in scoring average.
Logan Yates, a freshman from Ruckersville, Virginia, will play number-two for Tech. He led the Hokies in the season opener at VCU and is second on the team in scoring this season. Drew Johnson, a junior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, will play in the third position for the Hokies at Kiawah. He has started each event this season and is fifth on the team in scoring.
Ryan Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, Virginia, will play the fourth spot for Tech. He had a career-best finish last week, tying for 16th place playing as an individual at Bridgestone. He is currently third on the team in scoring. Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia, will play in the fifth position for Tech. The reigning Virginia State Amateur champion is fourth on the team in scoring this season and finished in a tie for seventh place earlier this season at Primland.
The teams will play 18 holes each day at Kiawah. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com via a link from Golfstat.com.
