GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team posted a two-round total of 4-over-par 580 and is in eighth place at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on Sunday afternoon. The 54-hole event is being played at the par 72, 7,245-yard Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina. Tech shot identical rounds of 2-over 290 on Sunday.
Joey Lane, a junior from Great Falls, Virginia, leads the Hokies with a 5-under 139 and is tied for fifth place, eight strokes behind Austin Eoff of Purdue. Lane shot a 2-under 70 in the morning round and a 3-under 69, highlighted by a hole-in-one on the 125-yard, par 3 12th hole. It is his first career ace.
Three Hokies, Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia, Logan Yates, a freshman from Ruckersville, Virginia and Blake Fiest, a freshman from Huntersville, North Carolina, are tied for 43rd place at 4-over 148. Drew Johnson, a junior from nearby Oak Ridge, North Carolina, is tied for 57th at 150. Yates posted an eagle-3 on the par 5, 570-yard 18th hole in the second round.
Ryan Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, Virginia, is playing the event as an individual. He is tied for 16th place at 2-under 142. He shot a 3-under 69 in the opening round.
Purdue leads the tournament heading into Monday’s final round, at 33-under 543, four strokes ahead of North Carolina. Northwestern is third at 563, host UNC Greensboro is fourth at 565 and VCU is fifth at 571. Georgia State is sixth at 574 and Utah is seventh at even-par 576, four strokes ahead of the Hokies. Kansas State is ninth at 581, Chattanooga is 10th at 593, Davidson is 11th at 596, Iowa State is 12th at 597, Mercer is 13th at 599 and South Alabama is 14th at 601.
The Hokies will be grouped with Utah and Kansas State in the final round on Monday morning. The teams will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring is available through a link on Hokiesports.com, via a link from Golfstat.com.
