Blacksburg, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team begins a busy stretch on Sunday and Monday, as they compete in the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. The 54-hole event will be played at the par 72, 7,245-yard Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Hokies will play two tournaments over the next nine days. Tech will finish up the fall next weekend at the CSU Kiawah Classic. The tournament, hosted by Charleston Southern, will be played at Turtle Point Golf Club on Kiawah Island.

The 14-team event boasts a strong field, drawn from across the country. Tech joins defending champion North Carolina as ACC schools in the tournament. The Pac-12, Big Ten and Big 12 also have representatives in the field. INC Greensboro is the tournament host

Joey Lane, a junior from Great Fall, Virginia will play in the first postion for the Hokies. He had a career-best fourth place finish two weeks ago at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate and currently leads the Hokies in scoring average.

Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia, will play in the second position for Tech. The reigning Virginia State Amateur champion was third on the team in scoring last season and finished in a tie for seventh place last month at Primland. Logan Yates, a freshman from Ruckersville, Virginia, will play number-three for Tech. He led the Hokies in the season opener at VCU and is fourth on the team in scoring this season.

Drew Johnson, a junior from nearby Oak Ridge, North Carolina, will play in the fourth position for the Hokies at Blackthorn. He has started each event this season and is third on the team in scoring. He finished 22nd last year at Grandover. Blake Fiest, a freshman from Huntersville, North Carolina, will play in the fifth position for the Hokies this week. He made his collegiate debut at VCU in September and made his first appearance in the starting five two weeks ago at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.

One Hokie will be playing the event as an individual. Ryan Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, returns to action this week after missing the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate with an injury.

The Hokies finished second in last year’s Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. Graduated seniors Scott Vincent and Trevor Cone finished second and third, respectively.

The teams will play 36 holes on Sunday and an 18 hole final round on Monday. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com via a link from Golfstat.com.
