Hokies 10th entering final round at Blackthorn Club

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Virginia Tech has a two round total of 5-over-par 581 and is in 10th place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club. The tournament is hosted by East Tennessee State at the Blackthorn Club at The Ridges, a par-72, 7,147-yard course in Jonesborough, Tennessee.

The Hokies were tied for the lead following a 1-over 289 on Friday. They shot a 4-over 292 on Saturday and enter Sunday’s final round in 10th place.

Joey Lane, a junior from Great Falls, Virginia, is in second place entering the final round. The co-leader following the opening round, Lane shot a second-straight 3-under 69 on Saturday and is at 6-under 138, two strokes behind Victor Wiggins of Charlotte.

Blake Fiest, a freshman from Huntersville, North Carolina, is tied for 32nd at 2-over 146 and Drew Johnson, a junior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, is tied for 43rd at 148. Fiest, who made his collegiate debut in the opener at VCU, is making his first appearance in the Hokies’ starting line-up. Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettsville, Virginia, is tied for 47th at 149 and Logan Yates, a freshman from Ruckersville, Virginia, is tied for 62ndat 152.

Three Hokies are playing in the tournament as individuals. Dan Woodbury, a sophomore from Upton, Massachusetts is in 78th place at 159, Ian Hildebrand, a sophomore from Purcellville, Virginia, is 82nd at 162 and Will Duma, a freshman from Atlanta, Georgia is 84th at 171.

Round one co-leader Penn State leads entering the final round. The Nittany Lions are at 10-under 566, four strokes ahead of Kent State. Louisville and Charlotte are tied for third at 575, Missouri is fifth at 576 and Tennessee, Virginia and VCU are tied for sixth at 577. East Carolina is ninth at 571, three strokes ahead of the Hokies. Host East Tennessee State is 119th at 587, Furman and UNC Wilmington are tied for 12th at 595, Villanova is 14th at 602 and Coast Carolina is 15th at 615.
