Blacksburg, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team hits the road this weekend for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club. The tournament is hosted by East Tennessee State at the Blackthorn Club at The Ridges, a par-72, 7,147 yard course in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
The 15-team event boasts a strong field, drawn primarily from the Mid-Atlantic region. Tech joins Louisville and Virginia as ACC schools in the tournament.
Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia, will play in the first position for Tech. The reigning Virginia State Amateur champion was third on the team in scoring last season and finished in a tie for seventh place two weeks ago at Primland.
Logan Yates, a freshman from Ruckersville, Virginia, will play number-two for Tech. He led the Hokies in the season opener at VCU and is second on the team in scoring this season. Joey Lane, a junior from Great Fall, Virginia will play third for the Hokies. He tied for 23rd at Primland and is third this season in scoring.
Drew Johnson, a junior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina, will play in the fourth position for the Hokies at Blackthorn. He has started each event this season and is fourth on the team in scoring. Blake Fiest, a freshman from Huntersville, North Carolina, joins the starting line-up this week. He made his collegiate debut at VCU in September and makes his first appearance in the starting five this week.
The Hokies will be playing the event as individuals. Dan Woodbury, a sophomore from Upton, Massachusetts, Ian Hildebrand, a sophomore from Purcellville, Virginia and Will Duma, a freshman from Atlanta, Georgia, will all make the trip to compete at Blackthorn Club.
The teams will play 18 holes each day. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com via a link from Golfstat.com.
