MEADOWS OF DAN, Va. – Play was suspended late in the second round of the Primland Collegiate Invitational on Monday afternoon, due to darkness. When play was halted, the Virginia Tech men’s golf team was in eighth place, having completed its second round.
The tournament, hosted by Wake Forest, is being played at the par 72, 7,057 yard Primland course at the Primland Resort in Meadows of Dan, Virginia.
Tech shot a 12-over-par 300 in Monday morning’s first round and followed that with a 3-over 291 in the afternoon round. The Hokies were ninth after the first round. Only the Hokies and Auburn were able to complete the second round on Monday, as most of the other teams still had three-to-six holes to play.
When play was suspended, Maclain Huge, a senior from Lovettesville, Virginia, led the Hokies at 2-under 142 and was tied for ninth place. He trails leader Michael Johnson of Auburn by 13 strokes.
Joey Lane, a junior from Great Falls, Virginia was tied for 27th at 147 and Drew Johnson, a junior from Oak Ridge, North Carolina and Logan Yates, a freshman from Ruckersville, Virginia, are tied for 37th at 151. Ryan Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, Virginia, is tied for 42nd at 143.
North Carolina, with two players still on the course, leads Auburn and host Wake Forest by three strokes. The second round will be completed Tuesday morning prior to the final round beginning.
UPDATE
Following a rain and fog shortened first day, the Primland Collegiate Invitational has been shortened to a 45-hole event. Play was suspended Monday night due to darkness. Weather is expected to be an issue again on Tuesday. Check back to Hokiesports.com and @VT_MGolf for updates.
