Three Hokies golfers named All-ACC
Chalkley, Cone, Vincent earn all-conference plaudits

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech golfers Bryce Chalkley, Trevor Cone and Scott Vincent have been named to the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf All-Conference team as selected by the league’s 12 head coaches. This is the first All-ACC selection for Chalkley and Cone, while Vincent earns the honor for the second consecutive season.

Chalkley, a senior from Richmond, Va., is third on the team in scoring average and in crunch time average this season. Chalkley had four top five finishes this season, highlighted by second-place finishes at VCU and Mission Inn. He finished ninth at the 61st ACC Championship last month. Chalkley is a four-year starter for the Hokies and on Thursday will compete in his fourth consecutive NCAA Championship.

Cone, a junior from Concord, N.C., is second on the team in scoring average and leads in crunch time average this season. He posted three top five finishes this season, including his first two career victories, both coming in March at Mission Inn and Furman. He is a three-year starter for the Hokies and will compete in his third NCAA Championship this week.

Vincent, a junior from Harare, Zimbabwe, leads the Hokies in scoring average and is second on the team in crunch time scoring this season. He set a new school record this season by posting three individual tournament victories, winning the Golfweek Conference Challenge, the VCU Shootout and the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club.

Georgia Tech junior Ollie Schniederjans was named the ACC Player of the Year and Florida State’s Jack Maguire was selected ACC Freshman of the Year. Georgia Tech’s Bruce Heppler garnered ACC Coach of the Year honors. The Hokies and Georgia Tech each had three players tabbed for the All-ACC team, with Florida State and Virginia each with two players and Notre Dame and Wake Forest both having one player chosen.

This is the first time since Virginia Tech joined the ACC that three Hokies have earned the award in the same season. Chalkley and Cone are the fifth and sixth Hokies to earn All-ACC honors.

The Hokies return to action on Thursday, as they compete in the NCAA Auburn Regional in Auburn, Ala. Tech is the second seed in the event.
