Badin Lake, N.C. – Virginia Tech posted a three-round total of 7-under-par 857 and finished in fourth place at the 61st Annual ACC Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon. The tournament was played at the par-72, 7,102-yard Old North State Club in Badin Lake, N.C.

The Hokies entered the final round in six place after an opening round 10-over par 298 and a 4-under-par 284 in the second round. Tech then went out on Sunday morning and shot a 13-under-par 275, the second-best round of the day and the tournament.

Four of the five Hokies shot rounds of 70-or-better in the final round. Tech entered the tournament with three Hokies averaging under 71.00 stroke average in the final rounds of events and all three bettered their final round averages on Sunday. All five Hokies equaled or bettered their final round averages of the season.

Junior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) carded a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday and finished in sixth place individually with a three-day total of 5-under-par 211. Ollie Schniederjans of Georgia Tech captured medalist honors for the tournament with a 12-under-par 204, five strokes better than second place Anders Albertson of Georgia Tech and Denny McCarthy of Virginia.

Senior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) tied for ninth place at 3-under-par 213, after posting a 4-under-par 68 on Sunday and junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) tied for 18th at 1-under-par 215, after carding a 4-under-par 68 in the final round. Sophomore Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) tied for 35th place at 222, following a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday. Freshman Joey Lane (Great Falls, Va.) tied for 47th place at 225 in his first ACC Championship competition.

In Chalkley and Cone’s rounds of 68 on Sunday, both golfers carded five birdies and just one bogey for the day. For the day, Tech, as a team, posted 19 birdies and nine bogeys.

Georgia Tech posted the best round of the tournament with a 15-under-par 273 on Sunday and captured the team title with a 25-under-par 839. The Yellow Jackets defeated Florida State by six strokes and Clemson by 12 strokes. The Tigers finished third at 851, six strokes ahead of the Hokies. Virginia was fifth at 862, Wake Forest was sixth at 864, Notre Dame was seventh at 872 and North Carolina was eighth at 876. NC State finished ninth at 882, Duke was 10th at 884, Maryland finished 11th at 885 and Boston College was 12th at 887.

This was the final scheduled event for the Hokies in the 2013-14 season. The team will now wait until Monday, May 5, for the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf selection show, to be aired for the first time on The Golf Channel, beginning at 10 a.m.
