GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech golfer Trevor Cone has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for the month of March, as selected by the ACC office.
Cone, a junior from Concord, N.C., earned medalist honors in both the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. (March 15-16) and the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C. (March 28-30). Five of Cone’s six rounds were par-or-better, including an 6-under-par 66 in the first round at Furman. He recorded two eagles and 27 birdies in 108 holes played during March for a scoring average of 69.33.
Cone led the Hokies to victories in each event and helped push Tech to three tournament titles this season. Cone has finished in the top 25 in seven of the team’s eight events this season and has recorded rounds of par-or-better in seven of the nine rounds he has played this spring.
This marks the second time that a Hokie golfer has won this award, both coming this season. Fellow Hokie junior Scott Vincent won the honor for the month of September. Entering this weekend’s 3M Augusta Invitational, Cone is ranked No. 20 by Golfstat.com and No. 31 nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
