GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot an opening round 3-over-par 291 and is tied with Chattanooga for third place at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate on Saturday afternoon. The event is being played at the par-72, 7,245-yard Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

Due to heavy frost, the event has been shortened from 54 to 36 holes. Eighteen holes were played on Saturday and the final 18 holes will be played on Sunday.

Senior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) and sophomore Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) each shot even-par 72 on Saturday and are tied for eighth place individually. The duo are four strokes behind individual leader Henry Do of North Carolina.

Junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) shot a 73 and is tied for 11^th place and junior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 22^nd at 74. Freshman Joey Lane (Great Falls, Va.) is tied for 74^th place after shooting an 80 on Saturday. Freshman Ryan Mondy (Blacksburg, Va.) is playing the event as an individual and is tied for 64th after shooting a 78 on Saturday.

North Carolina holds the lead entering the final round after shooting an even-par 288. Host UNC Greensboro is second at 290, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and Mocs. NC State is fifth at 292, Washington State is sixth at 293 and VCU and Purdue are tied for seventh at 296. Memphis is ninth at 297, Mississippi State is 10^th at 298 and William & Mary is 11^th at 302. Georgia State is 12^th at 304, Iowa State is 13^th at 305 and High Point is 14^th at 309.

This is the Hokies’ final event of the fall. The final round will be a shotgun start on Sunday morning.
