MACON, Ga. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team posted a three-day total of 15-under-par 849 and finished in third place at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship on Sunday. The event was played at the par 72, 7,128-yard Brickyard at Riverside Golf Course this weekend.

The Hokies shot rounds of 283-282-284 for the 849 total. All three rounds were under par. The host Mercer Bears won the tournament with a total of 27-under-par 837.

Junior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) continued his hot start this season as he recorded a total of 8-under-par 208 and finished in a tie for fourth place. He finished just one stroke behind co-medalist Emmanuel Kountakis and Hans Reimers of Mercer and Seth Reeves of Georgia Tech.

Senior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) posted his second consecutive top 10 finish, as he shot a 5-under-par 211 and finished in a tied for ninth place. Junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) shot the team’s best round of Sunday, a 4-under-par 68. He finished in a tie for 16th place at 213. Sophomore Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) finished in a tie for 25th place at 217 and freshman Ryan Mondy (Blacksburg, Va.) finished in 71st place at 229.

Georgia Tech finished in second place, two strokes behind the Bears and 10 strokes ahead of the Hokies. Top-ranked Georgia was fourth at 853, South Florida was fifth at 860 and Florida State and Louisville were tied for sixth at 865. GRUS Augusta was eighth at 869, Georgia State was ninth at 870, Chattanooga was 10th at 879 and Furman was 11th at 891. Princeton was 12th at 896 Boston College was 13th at 911 and Gonzaga was 14th at 913

This season, two of the top three teams in the current Golfstat.com poll, No. 1 Georgia and No. 3 Georgia Tech, were in the field at Brickyard, joined by five more teams ranked in the top 50. Additionally, five of the top 20 players in the country competed in Macon, including Vincent. Six of the top 50 teams in the Golfweek/Sagarin poll competed at Brickyard. A seventh top-50 team, the Air Force Academy, ranked 48th and 49th in the two polls, respectively, was scheduled to compete but had to withdraw, due to the shutdown of the federal government.

The Hokies return to action this weekend, as they travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club.
