BROOKLINE, Mass. – Virginia Tech golfer Trevor Cone will tee off in the 2013 U.S. Amateur Championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. on Monday afternoon.

Cone, a rising junior from Concord, N.C., won co-medalist honors at sectional qualifying in July at the Country Club of Whispering Pines’ East Course in Southern Pines, N.C., to gain a spot in the field. The U.S. Amateur will be played on the 7,310-yard, par 70, The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. There will also be play at the 6,547-yard, par 70 Charles River Country Club in nearby Newton, Mass., during stroke play.

The field of 312 will participate in 18 holes of stroke play on both August 12 and 13 before the top 64 players advance to six rounds of match play. The event will conclude with a 36-hole championship match.

Cone will be grouped with Matt Pinizzotto of UCLA and Kevin Reilly of Rice in the first round. The group will tee off at 2 p.m. EDT on the first hole of The Country Club course.

This is the sixth time that The Country Club has hosted the U.S. Amateur. The last time the course played host to the event was 1982, when Jay Sigel won the championship. The club has also hosted three U.S. Women’s Amateurs and three U.S. Opens.
