NEW LONDON, N.C. – Under rainy conditions on Sunday, the Virginia Tech golf team posted its second-best finish ever at the ACC Men’s Golf Championship. The Hokies finished with a three-day total of 22-under-par 822, tying Florida State for second place, finishing just three strokes behind tournament champion Duke. The 60th Annual ACC Men’s Golf Championship was played at the par-72, 7,102-yard Old North State Club in New London, N.C.

The Hokies had shot a 12-under-par 276 on Saturday afternoon, after opening the event on Friday with a six-under-par 282 and entered Sunday’s final round in fourth place. The Hokies’ final round of 284 was tied with the Blue Devils for the best round of the day.

Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) shot a final round two-under-par 70 and finished tied for second place with Chase Seiffert of Florida State at 10-under-par 206. Moyers and Seiffert finished five strokes behind medalist Anders Albertson of Georgia Tech.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) finished in sixth place at six-under-par of 210. Freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) and sophomore Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) tied for 10th at three-under-par 213. Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) tied for 29th place at 219. The Hokies, who posted all five individual rounds on Saturday at par-or-better, posted four of the five individuals at par-or-better on Sunday. Cone birdied the last four holes to join Moyers with a 70 on Sunday.

Duke shot a final-round four-under-par 284 and overtook Florida State, which had led the first two rounds, to claim the school’s seventh ACC Men’s Golf Championship. Duke finished with a three-round total of 25-under-par 839 and Tech and FSU finished tied for second at 842, nine strokes ahead of four-time defending champion, Georgia Tech. Clemson was fifth at 859, Virginia was sixth at 862 and North Carolina finished seventh at 869. Wake Forest was eighth at 872, NC State was ninth at 881, MAryland was 10th at 863 and Boston College finished 11th at 896.

This was the final regularly scheduled event of the 2012-13 season. The Hokies will learn their fate in regards to the NCAA regionals on Monday night, May 6.
