BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team plays its final regular season tournament on Saturday and Sunday at the Navy Spring Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole event will be played at the par-71, 6,611-yard Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.

The Hokies enter the event ranked No. 28 by Golfstat.com and No. 32 by Golfweek/Sagarin. Tech is joined in the field by ACC foes Virginia (63/68) and Wake Forest (27/24). There will be 18 Division I schools in the event, along with Division III Emory. Navy will field two additional teams, but those two teams will not count in the overall standings.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) will play in the number one spot for the Hokies. Vincent has four top five finishes this season and has finished in the top 10 of three of the four tournaments this spring. He finished 17th in the last event, at Augusta State.

Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.), who led the Hokies to the win at Furman with a third place individual finish and followed that with an eighth place finish at Augusta State, will play number two for Tech. Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) will play third for the Hokies. Chalkley, who is third in stroke average for Tech this season, placed fourth at Furman and 19th at Augusta State. Sophomore Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) will play fourth for Tech. He had a tenth place finish at Furman. Freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) will play in the fifth spot for Tech.

The Naval Academy Golf Club is currently ranked No. 19 in Golfweek’s “Best Campus Courses”. The same poll places The Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech at No. 8. The NAGC is a William S. Flynn design and has a rating of 71.7 and a slope rating of 128. Flynn also designed the Cascades Course at the Homestead Resort, where the Hokies hosted the 2004 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship.

The teams will play a practice round on Friday before beginning play on Saturday morning. This is a rare 36-hole event, as the competing teams will play 18 holes on Saturday and again, on Sunday. There will be no live stats for the event, but a daily wrap-up will be available on hokiesports.com.
