BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team will compete in the Insperity/Augusta State Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The two-day event will be played at the par-72, 7,142-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

This year’s field in Augusta is one of the strongest in collegiate golf this season. Defending national champion Texas headlines the field, that includes two-time national champion (2010 and 2011) host Augusta State. In all, teams that have won five of the last 10 national championships are competing at ASU. The Longhorns are also the defending champions of this event.

The Hokies enter the event ranked No. 37 by Golfstat.com and No. 38 by Golfweek/Sagarin. Joining the Hokies, Longhorns and Jaguars in the 15-team field are SMU (16/18), Georgia (17/14), Tennessee (23/27), Illinois (24/24), Houston (25/26), Clemson (28/28), South Carolina (35/36), UCF (39/50), Baylor (41/40), Coastal Carolina (48/47) and Purdue (95/84). USC-Aiken, ranked No. 3 in both Division II polls, is also competing in the tournament. Eleven of the top 40 teams nationally in Division I are in the field.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) will play in the number one spot for the Hokies. Vincent has four top five finishes this season and has finished in the top 10 of each of the three tournaments this spring. He finished seventh in the last event, at Furman.

Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.), who led the Hokies to the win at Furman in the last tournament with a third place individual finish, will play number two for Tech. Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) will play third for the Hokies. Chalkley, who is third in stroke average for Tech this season, placed fourth at Furman. Sophomore Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) will play fourth for Tech after a tenth place finish at Furman and freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) will play in the fifth spot for Tech.

The teams will play a practice round on Friday before beginning play with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday morning. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday before playing the final round on Sunday morning. Live stats will be on hokiesports.com and golfstatresults.com.
