Hokies fifth entering final round at Mission Inn

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team shot a two-round total of 11-over-par 587 in the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular on Saturday. The tournament is being played on the Las Colinas Course of the Mission Inn Resort and Spa in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., this weekend. The Hokies shot rounds of 294 and 295 in Saturday’s opening rounds.

Sophomore Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is tied for third place with a 36-hole total of two-under-par 142. He trails leaders Michael McGee of Indiana and Jonathan Grey of Georgia State by one shot.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for sixth place at even-par 144 and Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) is tied for 31st place at 150. Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) is tied for 38th at 151 and freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) is tied for 67th at 156.

Purdue leads the event after the first day of competition, with a two-round total of one-over-par 577, one stroke ahead of Indiana at 578. Florida Atlantic and Georgia State are tied for third at 585, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Old Dominion is sixth at 592, Appalachian State is seventh at 594, Murray State is eighth at 599, Hartford is ninth at 609 and Towson is 10th at 611. Marquette is 11th at 612, Morehead State is 12th at 614 and host George Mason is 13th at 616. Western Illinois is 14th at 619, Northern Illinois is 15th at 620, Stetson is 16th at 621, Connecticut is 17th at 623 and Rutgers is 18th at 634.

The final round will be played on Sunday morning.
