SAN JUAN, P.R. – The Virginia Tech golf team has a two-round total of four-over-par 580 and is in eighth place at the 2013 Puerto Rico Classic. The event is being played at the 6,902-yard, par-72 Rio Mar Country Club’s River Course near San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Hokies shot an opening round four-over-par 292 and followed that on Monday with an even-par 288.

Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) followed his opening round two-under-par 70 with a five-under-par 67 and is tied for the lead with Eduardo Castiello of Oklahoma at seven-under-par 137. The duo is one stroke ahead of Scott Strohmeyer of Alabama.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 19th place at 143 and junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) is tied for 28th place at 145. Sophomore Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is tied for 63rd place at 155 and freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) is tied for 68th place at 156.

First-round leader Alabama enters the final round tied for the lead with Oklahoma. Both teams are 19-under-par 557 and lead third place SMU by eight strokes. Georgia is fourth at 570, Georgia Tech is fifth at 571 and Clemson is sixth at 575. Northwestern is seventh at 578, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. Augusta State is ninth at 588, North Carolina is 10th at 587, East Tennessee State is 11th at 593 and NC State is 12th at 594. Ohio State is 13th at 598, host Purdue is 14th at 600 and Michigan is 15th at 611.

The Hokies will tee off in the final round, beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, grouped with Northwestern and Augusta State. Live scoring will be available on hokiesports.com and Golfstat.com.
