Hokies conclude fall slate at Grandover
Tech looks to wrap-up strong fall season at UNCG Bridgestone

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team will complete the fall portion of the regular season this weekend at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate, to be played Saturday and Sunday at the par 72, 7,245-yard Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

The Hokies will look to put a successful cap on the fall season, which already includes victories at the Marshall Invitational and the VCU Shootout. Tech also finished fourth at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship and eighth at Blackthorn Club.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe), will lead off for the Hokies. He leads the Hokies in scoring average this season and has placed in the top 5 in two tournaments so far this season. Vincent missed the Brickyard while playing for his native Zimbabwe in the World Amateur Team Championship in Antalya, Turkey.

Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) will play in the second spot again this week. Moyers tied for fifth with Vincent at the VCU Shootout and tied for 10th at Marshall. He has played in every event since arriving at Virginia Tech in the Fall of 2008. Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) will play in the third spot for the Hokies. He has also played in every event since coming to Virginia Tech and was the team’s leading scorer last season. He finished in sixth place in the Marshall Invitational earlier this season and led the Hokies at the Brickyard, tying for sixth place individually.

Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) will play in the fourth position for the Hokies. He played in every event for the Hokies last season and tied with Moyers for 10th place at the Marshall Invitational this season. He led the Hokies with a 17th-place finish at Blackthorn Club. Freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) will play in the fifth position for Tech. He posted a top 20 finish at Marshall, tying for 19th overall in his first collegiate event and followed that with an 11th-place finish at VCU. Huge competed in the 2012 U.S. Amateur this summer at Cherry Hill in Denver. Redshirt junior Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) will play the event as an individual.

Tech enters the event ranked 42nd in the Golfstat.com rankings and 43rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. The UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate boasts a field that includes four top 50 teams, according to Golfstat.com, including No. 28 Ole Miss, No. 47 Mississippi State and No. 50 Chattanooga, along with the Hokies. Other teams competing in the event are host UNC Greensboro, Purdue, Iowa State, Boston College, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, Maryland, NC State and VCU.

Tech will play a practice round on Friday. The tournament will begin on Saturday morning, with 54 holes of play. The final round will take place on Sunday. Live stats are available at: http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/index.cfm?tournament_id=3504
