BLACKBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team travel to suburban Richmond to compete in the VCU Shootout at the Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va., on Monday and Tuesday. The event will be played on the par 72, 6,955-yard Manakin course.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) will play in the No. 1 spot for the Hokies. He led the Hokies in scoring in the two NCAA events last spring and led the Hokies to the win at the Marshall Invitational with a third place individual finish.

Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) moves up to the second spot for the Hokies. He played in every event for Virginia Tech as a freshman and was the team’s leading scorer last season. He finished in sixth place in the Marshall Invitational earlier this month. Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) will play in the No. 3 spot this week. Moyers was tied for 10th at Marshall. He has played in every event since arriving at Virginia Tech in the Fall of 2008.

Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) will play in the fourth position for the Hokies. He played in every event for the Hokies last season and tied with Moyers for 10th place at the Marshall Invitational two weeks ago. Freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) will round out the top five for Tech. He posted a top 20 finish at Marshall, tying for 19th overall in his first collegiate event. Huge competed in the 2012 U.S. Amateur this summer at Cherry Hill in Denver.

Redshirt juniors Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) and Marc MacDonald, along with sophomore Miles Curley will play the event as individuals. Everts played as an individual in the Marshall Invitational, while MacDonald and Curley will be making their season debuts for the Hokies.

The Hokies finished fifth in the VCU Shootout last season. Vincent led the Hokies individually, tying for 11th place overall.

Tech will join Maryland as the only ACC teams in this tournament. Other teams competing, along with Tech, host VCU and the Terps are East Carolina, George Mason, Iowa State, JMU, Richmond, UNC Greensboro, ODU and Wichita State.

Tech will play a practice round on Sunday afternoon. The tournament will begin on Monday morning, with a second round to follow that afternoon. The final round will take place on Tuesday.
