Hokies open 2012-13 season at Marshall Invitational
Huge joins four returning starters in Tech line-up

BLACKBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team will open the 2012-13 schedule at the Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W.Va., on Monday and Tuesday. The event will be played on the par 71, 6,523-yard Guyan course.

Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) leads the Hokies into the event. Moyers played in every event last season and was fourth on the team in scoring average. He has played in every event since arriving at Virginia Tech in the Fall of 2008.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) will play in the No. 2 spot for the Hokies. He led the Hokies in scoring in the two NCAA events last spring and was second on the team in scoring as a freshman. Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) will play in the third position for the Hokies. He played in every event for the Hokies last season and was fifth on the team in scoring as a sophomore.

Freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) will make his collegiate debut in the fourth position for the Hokies. Huge comes to Tech as a three-time VISAA Division II champion and Player of the Year, and competed in the 2012 U.S. Amateur this summer at Cherry Hill in Denver. Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) will round out the starting unit for the Hokies. He played in every event for Virginia Tech as a freshman and was the team’s leading scorer last season. He was a 2012 All-East Region selection and was named second team All-State as a freshman.

Redshirt junior Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) will play the event as an individual. Everts started one event for the Hokies last season at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, after redshirting the 2010-11 season. He started for the Hokies at the 2010 NCAA Central Regional in South Bend, Ind.

This will be the Hokies’ second visit to this event and Tech is the only ACC team in the tournament. The Hokies finished third in the 2010 Marshall Invitational. Moyers tied for seventh place to lead the Hokies and Chalkley tied for 12th overall.

Tech will play a practice round on Sunday afternoon. The tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, with a second round to follow that afternoon. The final round will take place on Tuesday.
