BLACKSBURG, Va. – Two changes highlight the regular season slate on the 2012-13 Virginia Tech golf schedule, as the Hokies begin their quest for a seventh consecutive NCAA appearance.

“We look forward to building on the success we had in the recent NCAA Championship and are very excited that our 2012-13 tournament schedule will again feature some of the top events in collegiate golf,” head coach Jay Hardwick said. “ Our philosophy has always been that of playing against the nation's best and this season will be no different.”

Tech begins play on Sept. 8-9 at the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. This is second year in the tournament for the Hokies. This marks the earliest in an academic year the Hokies have opened their season, ahead of the Sept. 10-11 dates of this event last season Tech finished tied for fourth in this event last year.

The Hokies will once again compete in the VCU Shootout on the Manakin Course of the Hermitage Country Club on Sept 24-25. Tech was fifth at VCU last season. The Hokies will then travel to Macon, Ga., on Oct. 5-7 to compete in the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship at the Brickyard at Riverside Golf Course. One week later, on Oct. 15-17, Virginia Tech competes in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Blackthorn Club. Tech won the tournament in 2007. Tech wraps up the fall season at the Bridgestone Invitational on Oct. 27-28. This year’s event moves to the Grandover Resort, site of the 2012 NCAA East Regional.

In what has become one of collegiate golf’s top events, the Hokies will open the spring portion of the schedule at the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan on Feb. 17-19. This tournament traditionally attracts perhaps the top field in all of collegiate golf and this year should be no exception.

Following Puerto Rico, the Hokies will play in their first new event of the schedule, as they play in the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular at the Las Colinas Course of the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, just north of Orlando, on March 16-17. Following Mission Inn, the Hokies will once again play the Furman Invitational and the Administaff/Augusta State Invitational in late March and early April.

The Hokies will play their second new event April 20-21 at the Navy Spring Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Maryland. This will be the final regular season tournament of the 2012-13 slate.

The post-season will begin on April 26-28, as Tech will compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference Golf Championship at the Old North State Golf Club in Baden Lake, N.C. The Hokies finished tied for fourth in last season’s event

The Hokies will be looking for their seventh consecutive NCAA Regional appearance in 2013. This year’s sites are University Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, hosted by LSU, Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Florida, hosted by Florida State, Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, hosted by Ohio State, The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas, hosted by Arkansas, Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Washington, hosted by Washington State and Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Arizona, hosted by Arizona State.

The Hokies return four starters from last year’s team that advanced to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship, at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California in May. Tech finished 24^th overall in the event, after advancing out of the NCAA South Central Regional in Bowling Green, Ky.

Senior Mikey Moyers, junior Bryce Chalkley and sophomores Trevor Cone and Scott Vincent return to lead the Hokies. Joining this group is redshirt junior captain Marc MacDonald, redshirt junior Jacob Everts and sophomore Miles Curley, along with talented freshman Maclain Huge. Huge will compete in the 2012 U.S. Amateur Golf Championship at Cherry Hills in Colorado in August.
