BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 10-over-par 874 and finished in fourth place at the NCAA South Central Regional in Bowling Green Ky. With the fourth place finish, the Hokies advance to the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship, to be played at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Ca., May 29 through June 3.

The Hokies shot rounds of 297, 286 and 290 for the week. The tournament, hosted by Western Kentucky University, was played at the 7,248-yard, par 72 Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky.

Freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) shot a three-day total of five-under-par 211 and tied for third place overall. He trailed medalist Stephan Jaeger of Chattanooga by eight strokes. This is Vincent’s best-ever finish as a collegiate player.

Senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) finished tied for 23^rd place at 221 and sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) finished tied for 30^th at 223. Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) tied for 30^th at 225 and freshman Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) finished tied for 43^rd at 226.

Chattanooga shot four-under-par on Saturday and won the regional by one stroke over Texas A&M. Top seed UCLA was third at 863, 11 strokes ahead of the Hokies. Memphis was the fifth qualifier, shooting 876, three strokes ahead of Arkansas, four strokes ahead of North Texas and five strokes ahead of Northwestern.

This is the Hokies’ first trip to the national championship round since 2002. Tech finished 20^th in 2002 and eighth in 2001, with a team that boasted current PGA Tour standouts Brendon de Jonge and Johnson Wagner.
