NEW LONDON, N.C. – The Virginia Tech golf team has a two-round total of six-under-par 570 and is tied with Maryland for seventh place entering the final round of the 2012 ACC Men’s Golf Championship. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 7,102-yard Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, N.C.
Tech shot an opening round even-par 288 on Friday and followed that with a six-under-par 282 on Saturday. The final round will be played on Sunday.
Senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) has a two-round total of eight-under-par 136 and is tied for second place. He trails Richy Werenski of Georgia Tech by one stroke. Redmond posted four-under-par 68 in each of the first two rounds.
Freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 23rd place at 143 and sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) is tied for 32nd place at 145. Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) is tied for 37th place at 146 and freshman Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is in 52nd place at 154.
Three-time defending champion Georgia Tech maintains the team lead with a 32-under-par 544, 11 strokes ahead of Virginia. Florida State is in third place at 559, Clemson is fourth at 565, Duke is fifth at 567 and North Carolina is sixth at 569, one stroke ahead of the Hokies and the Terps. NC State is ninth at 573, Wake Forest is 10th at 574 and Boston College is 11th at 598.
The Hokies will be matched with NC State and Maryland in Sunday’s final round. The three teams will tee off in the second group, beginning at 9:10 a.m.
