Hokies seventh after one round at River Landing
Scheduled altered after morning rain delay

WALLACE, N.C. – The Virginia Tech golf team shot an opening round six-over-par 294 and is in seventh place at the River Landing Intercollegiate on Friday. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,901-yard River Landing Golf Club in Wallace, N.C.

The event, originally scheduled for 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday, had to be altered to 27 holes each day following a two and one half hour rain delay before play began. Each team completed nine holes of their second round before darkness on Friday evening.

Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) is tied for fifth place at one-under-par 71. He trails co-leaders Robert Karlsson of Liberty and Jordan Sweet of Maryland by three strokes.

Freshman Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is tied for 14th place at even-par 72 and freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 42nd place at 75. Sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) is tied for 49th place at 76 and senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) is in 63rd place with a 78.

Liberty shot a five-under-par 283 and holds a three-stroke lead over Maryland and North Carolina State. North Carolina is fourth at 289, Duke is fifth at 291 and South Carolina is sixth at 293, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. VCU is eighth at 297, Winthrop is ninth at 301, co-host East Carolina is 10th at 304, Jacksonville is 11th at 309 and co-host UNC Wilmington is 12th at 314.

The second round will conclude on Saturday morning and the final round will be played in the afternoon.
