Hokies 10th entering final round at Augusta State

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech shot a two-round total of one-over-par 577 on Saturday and is in 10th place entering the final round of the Insperity/Augusta State Invitational. The event is being played at the par-72, 7,143-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The Hokies shot a five-over-par 293 in the morning and followed that with a four-under-par 284 in the afternoon.

Freshman Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) shot a three-under-par 141 and is tied for 15th place entering the final round. He trails leader Julien Brun of TCU by eighth strokes. Cone shot a second round three-under-par 69, Tech’s best round of the day.

Senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) shot 143 and is tied for 28th place and freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) shot 144 and is tied for 32nd place. Sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) shot a 149 and is tied for 65th place and junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) shot 156 and is in 78th place.

Top-ranked Texas and host and two-time defending national champion Augusta State are tied for first place at 17-under-par 559, five strokes ahead of Illinois. TCU is fourth at 566, Tennessee is fifth at 568 and South Carolina is sixth at 569. Coastal Carolina is seventh at 571, Oklahoma State is eighth at 574 and Baylor is ninth at 575, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. SMU, Lamar and Houston are tied for 11th at 578, Georgia State and Clemson are tied for 14th at 582 and USC-Aiken is 16th at 585.

The final round will be played Sunday morning.
