BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf program has announced that Maclain Huge has signed a national letter of intent to attend Virginia Tech and play golf for the Hokies in Fall of 2012.

Huge (pronounced HUGH-ghee), from Lovettsville, Virginia, attends Middleburg Academy, where he was President of his junior class and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is currently ranked 58th by Golfweek/Sagarin for the class of 2012.

Earlier this year, he won his second Virginia Independent Schools Championship and was honored as the Player of the Year, an accolade he received in 2009 as well. He was also named to the VISAA All-State First Team for the third year in a row and the 2011 Washington Post All-Met First Team. Huge has won over 25 junior golf tournaments and finished fourth in the prestigious Scott Robertson Memorial in 2011. In 2010, he was selected to represent Virginia in the Virginia/West Virginia/Maryland Junior Team Matches.

“Maclain is very gifted athletically and has a tremendous amount of potential given his prodigious length off the tee,” Virginia Tech head coach Jay Hardwick said. “All facets of his game have continued to develop these past few seasons and I expect him to have an outstanding collegiate career. Most importantly, however, he’s a very good student and fine young man who will be another outstanding member of the Virginia Tech community when he arrives next fall.”
