GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot a two-day total of 15-over-par 591 and tied with Mississippi State for third place at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on Sunday afternoon. The two-day tournament was played at the par-72, 7,212-yard Forest Oaks Country Club. The Hokies shot 294 on Saturday and 297 on Sunday of the weather-shortened tournament
Sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) shot a one-over-par 145 and tied for eighth place in Greensboro. He finished six strokes behind medalist Albin Choi of NC State. It was Chalkley’s best finish of his career and his second top 10 finish this fall.
Freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) tied for 27th with a 149. Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.), freshman Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) and senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) all tied for 34th place at 150.
Iowa State was the only team under par on Sunday and claimed the team total with a six-over-par 582. The Cyclones defeated runner-up NC State by five strokes and the Hokies and Bulldogs by nine strokes. First round leader South Carolina was fifth at 592 and North Carolina, Kentucky, Purdue and Michigan tied for sixth at 593. Pepperdine and Mississippi tied for 10th at 594, host UNC Greensboro and Georgia State tied for 12th at 598, VCU was 14th at 603 and Toledo was 15th at 609.
The tournament was set for 36 holes on Saturday, but the first round was canceled due to inclement weather, dropping the two-day total to a 36-hole total instead of the originally-scheduled 54 holes. This is the Hokies’ final event of the fall schedule. They return to action on Feb. 19-21 at the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
