Hokies tied for second at Bridgestone
Weather cancels first of two rounds on Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech shot a six-over-par 294 and is tied with North Carolina for second place at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate on Saturday. The two-day tournament is being played at the par-72, 7,212-yard Forest Oaks Country Club.

The tournament was scheduled for 36 holes on Saturday, but the first round of the day was canceled due to inclement weather. The second round began with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. this morning. The final round is scheduled to be played Sunday morning.

Sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) and senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) each shot even-par 72 on Saturday and are tied for ninth place. The duo trail Patrick Barrett from North Carolina and Albin Choi from NC State by two strokes. Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) and freshmen Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) and Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) each shot 75 on Saturday and are tied for 30th place.

South Carolina leads the now-36 hole event. The Gamecocks shot a three-over-par 291 and are three strokes ahead of the Hokies and Tar Heels. Mississippi State is fourth at 295, host UNC Greensboro is fifth at 296 and Georgia State, Iowa State, NC State and Purdue are all tied for sixth at 297. Toledo is 10th at 298, Michigan is 11th at 299 and Kentucky and Mississippi are tied for 12th at 300. Pepperdine is 14th at 304 and VCU is 15th at 307.
