Hokies travel to the Blackthorn Club
Top field awaits Tech in Tennessee

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team will tee it up on Friday morning in the 14th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club. The three-day tournament will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club at The Ridges golf course.

Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) leads the Hokies into the event. Moyers had third-place finish at the season-opening Northern Intercollegiate and leads the Hokies in scoring average this season.

A pair of freshmen, Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) and Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) once again man the second and third spots for the Hokies. Vincent has a pair of top 20 finishes in his first three collegiate events, including an 11th place finish at the VCU Shootout. Cone is third on the team in scoring and has a 20th and 21st place finish in his first three events.

Sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) will play in the fourth position for Tech. Chalkley posted his best career finish earlier this week at the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship, where he placed ninth. The lone change to the Tech line-up this week is the addition of redshirt sophomore Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.). Everts, who played as an individual at the VCU Shootout earlier this season, will make his first-ever appearance in the Hokies’ starting line-up. Freshman Miles Curley (Rock Hill, S.C.) will play the event as an individual. He made his collegiate debut earlier this season at the VCU Shootout.

This year’s event at the Ridges once again boasts an outstanding field. Four teams in the top 25 of the Golfstat.com rankings are in the field, led by No. 7 Virginia and No. 9 Clemson. NC State and Wake Forest are other ACC teams joining the Hokies in the event. Tech has moved up this week to No. 35 in the Golfstat.com rankings and No. 39 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

The tournament will feature 18 holes of action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The teams will play practice rounds on Thursday. Although the name has changed, this is the same course as in years past for the tournament.
