Hokies tied for fifth at the Brickyard

MACON, Ga. – The Virginia Tech golf team has a two-round total of 591 and is tied with Georgia for fifth place in the 2011 Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship on Saturday. The three-day tournament is being played at the par-72, 7,175-yard Brickyard at Riverside golf course. The Hokies shot a 297 on Friday and improved to 294 on Saturday.

Sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Virginia) shot a 69 on Saturday and has a two-round total of one-under-par 143. He is tied for ninth place and trails leader Brooks Koepka of Florida State by seven strokes.

Three Hokies, junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.), and freshmen Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) and Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) are all tied for 41st place at 150 and senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) is tied for 68th place at 156.

Georgia Tech has a two-day total of 565 and leads North Florida by 13 strokes. Florida State is third at 580 and host Mercer is fourth at 588, three strokes ahead of the Hokies and Bulldogs. Two-time defending national champion Augusta State and Chattanooga are tied for seventh at 594, Texas-Arlington is ninth at 595 and Mississippi is 10th at 596. Oklahoma is 11th at 597, the College of Charleston and Colorado State are tied for 12th at 601, Air Force is 14th at 611 and Gonzaga is 15th at 616.
