MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. – Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of nine-under-par 855 and finished in fifth place at the VCU Shootout at the par 72, 6,955-yard Hermitage Country Club’s Manakin Course. Tech shot a final round of five-over-par 293 on Tuesday.

Freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) shot a total of four-under-par 212 and tied for 11th place in the event. He finished seven strokes behind medalist Scott Fernandez of Iowa State.

Junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) and freshman Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) each shot one-under-par 215 and tied for 21st place. Senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) tied for 21st place at 217 and sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) tied for 39th at 219.

Three Hokies competed in the tournament as individuals. Redshirt sophomore Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) tied for 63rd at 223, freshman Miles Curley (Rock Hill, S.C.) tied for 81st at 230 and redshirt sophomore Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) was 88th at 238.

Virginia shot a 27-under-par 837 and won the event by seven strokes over East Carolina. Wichita State was third at 852 and Iowa State was fourth at 854, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Wake Forest was sixth at 856 and Charlotte, Richmond and UNC Greensboro tied for seventh at 863. Maryland was 10th at 865, North Carolina was 11th at 869, host VCU was 12th at 872, UNC Wilmington was 13th at 876, Old Dominion was 14th at 878 and James Madison was 15th at 896.

The Hokies return to action on Oct. 7-9, as they travel to Macon, Ga., for the Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship at the Brickyard at Riverside Golf Club.
