MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. – Virginia Tech shot a two-round total of 14-under-par 562 and is in second place entering the final round of the VCU Shootout at the par 72, 6,955-yard Hermitage Country Club’s Manakin Course on Monday. Tech shot rounds of eight-under-par 280 and six-under-par 282 in Monday’s two rounds.
Four Hokies are in the top 15 of the tournament, led by junior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.). Moyers shot a five-under-par 139 and is tied for seventh place individually. He trails leader Scott Fernandez of Iowa State by four strokes.
Freshman Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for ninth at 140 and freshman Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is tied for 11th at 141. Senior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas) is tied for 14th place at 142 and sophomore Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) is tied for 52nd at 147. Only one of the Hokies’ 12 team rounds today was over par.
Three Hokies are competing in the tournament as individuals. Redshirt sophomore Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) is tied for 69th at 150, freshman Miles Curley (Rock Hill, S.C.) is tied for 77th at 152 and redshirt sophomore Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) is tied for 88th at 161,
Virginia shot a 565 and lead the Hokies by three strokes. East Carolina is in third at 563, Iowa State is fourth at 564, Wichita State is fifth at 566 and North Carolina and Wake Forest are tied for sixth at 571. Charlotte is eighth at 573, UNC Greensboro is ninth at 577, Maryland is 10th at 579 and Richmond is 11th at 580. Host VCU is 12th at 582, ODU is 13th at 587, UNC Wilmington is 14th at 589 and James Madison is 15th at 594.
The final round will be played on Tuesday morning.
